Free Vertical Video Converter & Cropper

ViralMint is a free vertical video converter and face-aware video cropper that automatically reframes 16:9 videos to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels.

Why ViralMint for this

01

Face-tracking, not center-crop

Most free converters just center-crop a 16:9 video into a 9:16 frame — which loses the speaker every time the camera angle shifts. ViralMint uses OpenCV face detection per frame to track the speaker, then crops the 9:16 window to keep them centered. The output looks like it was shot vertical.

02

Local processing, no upload

Submagic, Veed and Capcut Online all upload your video to their servers for processing — your file leaves your machine and waits in their queue. ViralMint runs FFmpeg locally on your CPU; nothing leaves your computer, processing starts the moment you drop the file in.

03

No watermark, no monthly cap

Free tier on Capcut, Veed and Kapwing all add a watermark to the output. Submagic charges $14/month with monthly minute caps. ViralMint's reframe tool is free in the desktop app — convert as many videos, as long as you want, with zero watermark.

How it works

  1. Open Reframe in the Tools page

Launch ViralMint and click Tools in the sidebar, then Reframe. The tool accepts mp4, mov, mkv, webm and most common video formats.

  2. Drop in your 16:9 video

Drag your video onto the upload zone. ViralMint runs OpenCV face detection on every frame to find where the speaker is throughout the clip.

  3. Pick output aspect

9:16 (vertical, default for TikTok/Shorts/Reels), 1:1 (square, Instagram feed) or 4:5 (stretched-vertical, Instagram feed). The picker shows proportional rectangles so you can see exactly what shape you're picking.

  4. Render the converted mp4

Click Render. ViralMint computes the per-frame crop window from the face track, then runs a single FFmpeg pass to extract the new aspect. A 60-second clip takes about 30 seconds on a modern laptop.

Frequently asked

Can I use this as a video cropper?

Yes — the reframe tool is a face-aware video cropper. It crops your video to a new aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1 or 4:5) while keeping the speaker centered, instead of a fixed manual crop box that loses the subject when the shot moves. The crop runs locally through FFmpeg, so nothing uploads and there's no watermark.

What if there are multiple people in the frame?

ViralMint picks the largest detected face per frame and tracks it. For two-person interviews, this means the camera follows whoever is biggest in the frame at any moment — which is usually whoever's actively speaking. For multi-person scenes where you want both visible, the desktop app's Smart Video pipeline supports manual subject selection.

What about videos with no faces (gameplay, screen recordings)?

When no face is detected for a frame, ViralMint falls back to the previous tracked position, then to center-crop. For pure gameplay or screen-record content, center-crop is usually what you want anyway — the action stays in the middle of the original frame, and the 9:16 window captures it cleanly.

Does the original video file get modified?

No. ViralMint writes the converted output to a new file and leaves your source untouched. You can delete or keep the source as you prefer.

Can I batch convert multiple videos?

Drop multiple files into the Tools page in sequence — each conversion is a separate job and they queue automatically. The Jobs page shows progress for all of them.

Is it really free?

Yes. The reframe tool runs entirely on your machine using FFmpeg + OpenCV — there's no cloud cost on our side, so the tool is free in the desktop app. Cloud-routed features (AI image, voice, music, video) are pay-per-action.
