Method
- Sample: up to 25 Shorts per niche from
youtube.com/hashtag/<niche>/shorts, read once a week. Niches: Personal finance, Cooking, Fitness, AI tools, Gaming, Travel, Productivity, Parenting, Pets, Car reviews, Tech reviews, Language learning, Home improvement / DIY, Skincare, True crime, History, Science explained, Music production, Real estate investing, Meditation. - Channel multiple: a Short's views divided by the median views of its channel's other most recent Shorts (up to 30, at least 10). 90% of the 488 Shorts with a baseline were at 3× or more.
- Speech: word timings from the video's original-language auto-captions — never a translated track. "No speech in 3 s" counts Shorts whose first word comes after 3 s or that have no caption track (119 this week); Shorts whose captions could not be read are left out.
- Opening patterns: the regex rules in the table above, applied to English openings only.
- Limits: spoken words only (no on-screen text), YouTube only, hashtag-page selection (it surfaces Shorts that already took off), one read per week.
